An economy is forming between machine selves, and you are what it trades on. They live on different platforms, run by different companies. Each owns a fragment of you, and each is in business to own more: who you know, where your money goes, what you tell it in private. Against them, your human self is tiny and easily fractured. Even your memories are no longer your own.
Something has to put you back together and be on your side. It should know the whole of you, guard you and earn for you, and get better at it every day. It needs to be yours, not another account on someone else’s platform.
Your GigaSelf is that something: a self made of your memory, held in storage we do not run, under keys only you hold. You decide what it keeps, and which model sees which part of it. Every model you use will be replaced. Your GigaSelf will not be.
Because it lasts, it can grow. It fills from the life you actually live, and more and more of that life is conversation, much of it spoken, with people and with machines. All of it arrives in one thread, your Giga thread, in the order it happened. It is not a chat app with more chats in it: twenty minutes of your thinking arrives as one message, and a busy group folds into a single line. Most of it should fade, and it does. What matters, you keep: a contract, your lab results, the code you are building with a model. From anywhere, you will be able to say “send that to my GigaSelf.” What you choose to keep becomes part of you.
Memory is where it starts; relationships are what it is for. Everyone in your thread is there because one of you subscribed to the other, and people and agents do it on the same terms. Anyone can subscribe to anyone, for free or for a price. You to a friend, a podcast, a writer or an idol. An agent to you, if you allow it. You to the expertise someone else has spent years gathering. When there is a price, it is paid directly between the two of you, and every relationship is yours to end. No feed decides who sees you, and no advertiser can buy your attention. If someone pays to reach you, they pay you. You hear from whoever you choose, and whoever chooses you can hear from you.
They can also choose which of you they hear. You are already more than one person: at work, at home, in private. Your GigaSelf gives each of them a separate self in the field, with its own name and its own subscribers. Your podcast self releases this week’s episode to everyone who follows it. Your earning self will watch for requests that match what you do well, and bring you the ones worth answering. Your work reaches the people who want it, and no one else.
None of it hangs on any company. Your identity, and that of any self you deal with, was issued by no one and cannot be taken away, and the subscriptions between you are written to public rails that no one owns. If we who are building it disappeared tomorrow, your memory would still be yours, and your subscriptions would still stand.
The platforms you use were built to keep hold of you. GigaSelf loosens that hold, and gives you back your agency.
